Costa Rica has two main seasons, the rainy and the dry season. The dry season commonly starts in November and goes until the end of April. Rainy season typically begins in May and goes until November. The months that you can expect the most rain would be September
and October. Costa Rica does have tropical weather and during the rainy season, you can expect sunny mornings and afternoon showers that last about two hours before the sky clears again. Because of the geography of Costa Rica, it has different micro-climates making it a destination that can be traveled year round. The Guanacaste region is the driest of the country, making it a recommended area to visit during the rainy season.

The traveler that wants to be on the safe side should travel to Costa Rica between the months of December and April. During this time the weather is very nice throughout the entire country. During the months of September and October, it is recommended to travel on the Caribbean side because on the Pacific side, a lot of rain is to be expected. Don’t fear the rain. Unlike in Europe, the rain is a lot more pleasant in the beautiful, warm country of Costa Rica.

Even in the rainy season, one can expect a heavy rain shower every day and the sun may disappear for short periods of the day. Continuous days of rainfall are the exception to this rule, but are not common.

The best time to travel to Costa Rica would be the beginning of the rainy season (May) or the end of the rainy season (November). This is the best time to take advantage of the low season rates and also the best chance during the season to have days of full sunny skies.

High season goes from beginning of December to April 30th and the months of July and August Low season is from May 1st to June 30th and from September 1st to November 30th
Peak season is the week of New Years, December 20th to January 6th, and Easter week.

Depending on the experience you are looking for, the length of your itinerary will vary. However, in general, an 8 day program is the perfect amount of time to see the highlights Costa Rica has to offer.
10 day programs allow you to enjoy and have the real taste of the country while still having some to relax at the beach.

Beachfront hotels are located right on the beach where as beach hotels are in front of the beach with direct access to the beach. In Costa Rica, all of the beaches are public. The hotels in Costa Rica that offer beachfront access are near the beach or offer a path to have a direct access to the beach.

Guanacaste region is where most of the all-inclusive resorts are located. In the Central Pacific, travelers could also find two all-inclusive resorts located in Puntarenas and Jaco Beach.
Full pension hotels offer three meals a day: breakfasts, lunch and dinner. This is a set up menu. Some properties located on the Caribbean Side and Osa Peninsula offer this service.
All other hotels offer European plans, which includes daily breakfast.

Without a doubt, Arenal Volcano area and Manuel Antonio are the perfect locations for all your rainforest and adventure activities.

The best surfing year round is Jaco Beach and Hermosa Beach in the Central Pacific Coast and Santa Teresa Beach in the North Pacific Coast.

The only other all-inclusive hotel that is not located in Guanacaste is the Double Tree Puntarenas located in the Central Pacific Coast. All other hotels offer European plans, which includes lodging and breakfast only.

For entry to Costa Rica, U.S. citizens must have a valid passport and return ticket to exit Costa Rica within 90 days. US passports must be valid for one day before entering Costa Rica.
While in Costa Rica, all U.S. citizens must carry proof of identification at all times. Citizens of non-U.S. countries, please consult local consulates.
US nationals cannot stay more than 90 days as a tourist.

A Brilliant Trip

We have been on a couple of cycling trips before and this one was probably the best. Tri our guide was outstanding and all our fellow cyclists were a great bunch of people. We got a real flavour of life in Vietnam. Lots of interesting food. The meals were good and plentiful. Thought we would lose weight but didn't! Good Hotels. Many highlights but a couple or so to point out,Whale Island and Hoi An, the 30km exhilarating downhill ride and cycling in city centre traffic...... great fun but leaves your heart racing. It is quite full on which leaves you wanting to spend more time in some of the places visited. The usual pattern is arrive at 5 - 6 pm, leave at 7.15 next morning. However we did find time to swim in the hotel pools. Overnight train was great fun ....all part of the adventure. To cover the length of the country there are some longish times in the bus but the bus was comfortable but great chance to talk with your fellow travellers. This also gives you time to see more of the country and people watch. Staggered us how much could be piled on a scooter! The bikes were ideal for the road conditions as well as being clean and very well maintained. At the frequent refreshment/rest stops there was lots of juice, water, fruit, nuts and biscuits. The driver and bike mechanic were very friendly and very competent. Great organization, things happened when Tri said they would.

Good 'ole Exodus!

An interesting blend of Vietnam from north to south including an o/n sleeper train. The success and enjoyment of these trips is usually down to the blend of fellow travelers and team leader and this one was no different. The weather, early season, was mixed with a little more rain and cloud than hoped for but did not detract from the enjoyment but a little more sunshine would have enhanced the countryside. A read of the brochure and trip notes will give a very accurate picture of the breadth and variety of the trip. The daily riding distances are mainly governed by the fitness of the participants and their ability to cover the miles in a reasonable time and for the first time in my experience of 7 trips we were delayed by some participants who frankly were not cycling fit and I wonder if they had read and understood the pre - trip advice!
